Who I am
My name is Ivian Destro Boruchowski, MEd, and I am pursuing a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction. I am dedicated to researching and discussing bilingual education. In 2014, I received the prestigious “World Ahead Student” award from Florida International University for my Masters thesis. I also recieved the AOTP-Press Award in 2016 for the most relevant publication for Portuguese teachers in the U.S. I am currently designing curriculum for Heritage, World, and Dual Language programs, as well as offering professional development for best practices in education related to bilingual students. I am also actively involved with communities of Portuguese speakers all over the world and raising awareness about bilingual education.
I also have personal experience with special needs learners and I have helped parents and schools to understand the best practices for these learners. Before arriving in the U.S., I had worked for 12 years as a Portuguese and Brazilian Literature teacher and coordinator, as well as a textbook author in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
